Default Transmissiion Gone?

01 LHS. 90,000K

Few weeks ago check eng light came on. I think it was code 740. TTC Malfunction. Other than the light, everything seemed fine. Did the usuall Oil change, cleaned up any sensors. Light still on. I was planning on a Trans fluid change next, when out of the Blue it just gave up. Almost got my wife killed on the Highway. Right in the middle of a highway crossing, the tranny decided it wouldn't move the car. Luckily it was late at night and no traffic. She didn't panic, released her foot from the gas and slowly applied. Tranny engaged again and she made it home another mile. Now it won't go into gear for very long and when it does, it doesn't feel or sound good. I decided to go ahead and drop the pan and see what I got. There is metal flakes in the fluid, but no chunks of any sort. I mean it is 90,000k miles, so some metal would be normal.

Has this happened to anyone? Absolutely no indication of tranny problems and then it just fails? We do not tow anything with it and mostly highway driving. Should I even bother spending the $40 for a new filter, gasket and T-4 fluid or just take it in and have my a-hole reamed for a new tranny? Can I trust AAMCO to let me know the truth?

Thanks in advance.

this was your warning of an issue that U say there was none.
Few weeks ago check eng light came on

U will need a new converter and more then likely now the trans rebuilt due to all the metal from the converter comming apart and is flowing around inside the trans.

I agree with chrysler tech don't spend the money on rebuilding your own, they're cheap enough now to get a whole new reman unit.
