Default 02 Sebring 2.7 timing tensioner

Doing water pump oil pump and a complete timing kit..but the timing tensioner is being a pain..took off everything but couldnt get the tensioner to push out the back even with the backing plate removed but it came out the inside with no problem. The trouble im having is getting the new one in it gets about halfway and it wont go any further.any idea's or are they just a pain to push back in? also does the little metal clip around it come off the tensioner?
