Default 2001 Sebring 2.7 convertable

Hey forum. New here and need some tec help please! My name is Bob. Own a 01' Sebring convertible with 2.7. My problem is #8 start/fuel fuse blew about a year ago and never again till now!! I have been having no crank, just click click. ! Replaced battery, replaced starter and replaced start switch as well. The car has been starting fine and never blew #8 fuse since last year, till now!! It blows as soon as i turn key to start!! I cant find a elect diagram , my manual doesnt have the drawing for convertible, which is different than the coupe!!! I thought my issues was the starter , because i meter .4 ohms at the start relay. But all starters i checked have same omic value! I know #8 fuse powers other items as well , i removed the starter relay and the fuse doesn't blow. Going crazy here!!! Any help will be awesome!!! Thanks

If you have a shop manual for a coupe, you have nothing. The coupe was built by Mitsubishi. The sedan/convertible was built by Chrysler. They are completely different cars with very few parts in common.

The main (only?) job of fuse #8 is to protect the fuel pump circuit. If it's blowing, your problem is in that circuit. Here's a little test you can perform. Pull out the fuel pump relay. Then try cranking the car using the key. It won't start but if the fuse doesn't blow, then you've got a fuel pump issue. Inspect the wiring to the fuel pump as much as you can. If you see any places where it might be shorting to ground, then repair those. If you can't find a problem with the wiring, then most probably the fuel pump itself is bad. Unfortunately, replacing the fuel pump involves dropping the fuel tank, which is not an easy fix.

The starter and fuel pump r on fuse #8. I pulled the starter relay and the fuse holds. Just put another new starter and it started fine about ten times, then i went to back up and bam. Dead!!!!!

Was it a new starter or rebuilt? I only replace with new and not rebuilt. The local shop I use only puts in new because of too many come-backs with rebuilt starters.

Hello. Last question asked was it a new , starter has been replaced three times , two new from Orileys and a rebuilt from NAPA. It is not the starter!! The problem has been many diffrent things all start related!! Yesterday it started ten times in a row! Ya. Started it up went to drive and it moved ten feet and then blew the #8 start/fuel fuse again!!! Today with brand new started, brand new battery(13.6) and brand new start switch i tried to start after changing #8 blown fuse and it goes click, click, click!!!!!put charger on it and nothing!!! Swaped relays and nothing!!! I jumped terminals 30 and 87 and it turns over fine!!!!! Looking at drawing of start circuit it appers it may be PCM!!!😩 Drawing shows from PCM starter relay control applys voltage to terminals on start relay 86-87😩 which operats the relay coil!!! Any help?? Thanks
