Default 87 vs 91 gas difference

Hi,

I have a 1996 Chrysler Sebring with about 132,xxx miles and I recently read in my manual that I can either use 87 or 91 gas.

I was wondering what is the difference between these two?

Will my engine run better, cleaner and last longer if I use 91 gas or will I just be wasting my money?

Thanks,

Viet
