98 sebring "evap large leak" help
Hey guys.. new to the forum. I have a 98 sebring LXI v6.. I have a engine code saying I have a evap emission large leak.. I can hear whistling coming from the front of the engine near the a.c. compressor area.. I checked all hoses and seem to be fine. The sound sounds like it's coming from behind the plastic front cover.. could that be where the leak is before I go tearing the car apart?
thanks for any help.
thanks for any help.
I'm new here too - I've had my '99 for 6 years, but have not yet had to fool with the EVAP system.
The EVAP purge solenoid is located down in that area.
It is used to control/regulate both pressure and vacuum in the EVAP system.
If it is not operating correctly, or the hoses and/or connections are leaking, it can cause EVAP errors.
Last I looked a replacement solenoid was around $30.
It looks like this when you look down at the top of it.

You can pinpoint the location of a vacuum leak using a length of tubing or hose by holding one end near your ear and putting the other end where you think the leak is located. It'll get louder when you are right at the leak.
