my car quit on me last week.it was running great when i stopped,but when i restarted it,it jumped around and wouldn't idle or even move.it didn't even have enough power to raise the top.after several calls to my husband and finally for a wrecker,my husband told me to turn the key on,depress the accelerator 5 times,turn the key off,then try to start it.well it started right up and is still running good(for now).my question is what could have caused this to happen?i know that was a reset ,but on what?it may not work next time.

 

I think.. (but not sure) it might have something to do with information being passed on from your computer to you fuel injectors... maybe the injectors are clogged/dirty... just a suggestion... look into maybe getting them replaced...

 

still having the same problem after two months.as long as i keep the gas tank over half full it runs great.put in whole new fuel pump assembly this week and thought it was fixed.did the same thing again this morning.any ideas?

 

Maybe it could be something to do with your throttle body... if you've had all that stuff replaced, maybe the throttle isn't opening up all the way, and is choking it's self...

 

Try a fuel injector cleaner before anything drastic... ask autozone about it, they usually reccomend good products... fuel system cleaner.... STP is good, but ask someone that works with it that could tell you more about it... kym... any suggestions on fuel system cleaners?

 

Howdy, well I don't work at AutoZone anymore, I'm now a pep boys girl.. hehehe.. yey me! anywho.. AutoZone carries 3 kinds of injector cleaners... theirs STP Fuel Injector Cleaner, STP High Milage Cleaner, and Vaviline (sp) Injector Cleaner... the STP was the highest selling one, only because it's a brand name, and it's like $1.99, or $2.99... good luck...

 

Would you believe it was loose ground wires in the trunk.We found out you could open the trunk while the car was running and it would start running really bad.Then one day when it wouldn't start I opened the trunk while my husband was trying to start it and I picked up the wires going across the top inside the trunk.It started out sputtering and the light was dimming and after I moved them around some it started running great.My husband tightened the wires and so far it seems okay.
