Default Electrical issue 1998 Chrysler Sebring

Hello everyone, new member here.

I'm having some issues with a 98 Sebring JXI convertible. I bought the car this summer and the guy said it was running great and then it just quit one day. It ended up being the fuel pump that was wrong with it. I replaced it and it fired right up. Now I've came across another problem. Sometimes you can start it and everything will be fine, and sometimes, not so much. Sometimes when you start it, the tachometer (or sometimes all the gauges) won't work, sometimes it will show an issue with the #5 fuel injector and have a miss, sometimes the abs light will come on also. It also draws power, it will kill the battery overnight.

I'm kinda of guessing it may be related to a ground issue or something where it doesn't do it all the time? I've only worked on four Chrysler vehicles and I've never had good luck with them lol, so any help at all would be appreciated.

Also, the radio isn't working and the power top isn't working.

I think your hunch about a bad ground is a good place to start. The car is now 19 years old and bound to have issues. Most of the things you mention go through the body computer, so start there and see if you can find a bad ground or short. Good luck with it. Come back and report your progress.

Thanks for the reply, I'll go through it and see if I can find anything with the ground wires. Is there a website online that would have a schematic of the grounds?

I got this car for extremely cheap, and I'm just trying to get it going because I'm sure it gets better fuel mileage than my powerstroke lol

The full wiring diagrams take up about a hundred pages of the shop manual. I don't believe they exist online although there may be some pirate sites in Russia that have them. 12volt.com may have some partial information.

Shop manuals appear from time to time on eBay. You might get lucky there.
