Been doing a little research and read many negative comments at the various forums and "google" on the Sebring.

Wonder if I made a mistake?

Mine seems to run just fine and only has 14k miles. I am 2nd owner. Previous and original owner had no repair problems. Was purchased locally at the Chrysler Dealership and is "certified" 3 months or 6000 miles. Plus I am thinking of purchasing an extended warranty. Should I purchase it?

I sure like the car...

Think of an extended warranty as a "prepaid repair cost plan." The way they work is that the provider of the plan gathers information on repair costs for a particular vehicle. Armed with this information, he then adds up what the average repair costs are likely to be for the average car, adds a premium representing his overhead and profit and sells you the plan. He then banks the money and bets that the plan will run out before the money does. He improves his chances if he can deny your claim for some reason or another. Basically, it's his bet that your car won't need big repairs. If you want to play that game, go ahead. Just remember that those guys are in it to make a buck, not to fix your car. Besides building in the cost of anticipated repairs and a profit, the guy also has to build in his overhead: advertising, claim expense, the cost of those 800 numbers, etc., etc., etc. The only source of money to cover all that is y-o-u.

The extended warrantee is $1800 for 5 years. It is there "max" coverage and covers over 5000 mechanical components. So about 360 a year or 30 bucks a month. $150 deductible... so ever time someting goes wrong... costs me $150.

2011 Consumer Reports gave it a so so rating w/ 6 black dots out of 17.

So what kind of problems do you guys have with these cars?
And are typical and usual?

What about the retractable hard top? What kind of problems?
Anybody have one?

Bottom line.... do you thinks its worth the 30 bucks a month? Plus the $150 deductible. Heck if I know? You guys know these cars...not me.

My guess is that if you put the $30 each month into a bank account, and only drew it out to cover car repairs (plus $150 out of your own pocket for the deductible), you'd be money ahead at the end of 5 years, as long as you maintained the car carefully. Nobody can predict the future, and your car might have some gremlin in it waiting to burst loose, but ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances. That's just the way life is.
