Default overheating/ mult issue- master Tech?

I have a 2007 Sebring 4-cyl (1st mistake) I have had several problems over-heating and coolant leaks. I've had the thermostat, thermostat housing, radiator assembly hoses and clips replaced among other things. I was driving and the car ran hot, I pulled off the highway and the car shut off and didn't come back on.! I got the started replaced yesterday and there seems to be 2 more problems. What is the rubber or plastic piece between the thermostat and the motor? Now I've been told it is leaking. Can anyone please help.
