Possible Ignition Issue?
I have a 2011 Chrysler 200. For the past 3-4 months I've been having an issue when I shut the car off and take my keys out of the ignition and open the door my dash is stating that my keys are still in the ignition and my door will ding like they actually are. It will happen for a few days at a time then won't for a couple days then start back up again. Sometimes I can get it to shut off if I keep turning my key to on and back off a few times. I've just dealt with it up to this point but was planning on having the car looked at soon. Well now I have another issue; starting 4 days ago my battery keeps draining overnight. I've had to jump the car each morning and yesterday it almost didn't start when I left work. I have had both the battery and alternator tested and they are fine. I'm thinking the issue I'm having with the ignition is what's causing it. I've had the issue with the "key in ignition" every day since I've been having issues with my battery. Has anyone dealt with something similar? I was recently told to check my fuses but what fuse should I be checking or replacing? Could it be a bad ignition wire? I do plan on bringing it in to be looked at next week as I will be out of town for a few days and already had plans to rent a car if I can't figure something out before then. Any recommendations??
There's a tiny little lever inside the key slot that moves when you take the key out. Maybe it's stuck. Try putting a drop of WD-40 on the key and inserting it several times, working it in and out. Might help. Can't hurt. Doesn't cost anything.
It's worked for me and others.
Might work for you.
