Default Stuck in 1st

I have a 98 Sebring LXI coupe, and having some problems with it not shifting out of first gear. Trans fluid is where it's supposed to be. Thought at first it may have been the speed sensor, but the odometer is working. Any thoughts??

Yes the check engine light is on, but I did not have any work done to it so i am not sure what you mean by "just the output".

Before it would not change gears, i would try to accelerate and it would just pause at a steady rpm. I would have to release the gas pedal for it to engage and accelerate again.

I can't really tell if it is stuck in first because I can go 50 mph without it redlining and I don't think it could actually handle that speed in just first gear.

its second gear not first. when u start the car and put it in drive does it go a few feet and u feel a bump?
if so u need to also replace the input speed sensor. Infact replace both i misread what u said and though u had replaced the otuput already. 2 sensors and away u go. The light will go out after the computers have seen 3 good trips and all of the OBD2 tests have passed.

Thanks for the info. I changed out both speed sensors and it didn't fix the problem. Guess I'm going to have to get the TCM's read. Trying to save the charge for that, but guess I have to bite the bullet.
