Default Transmission random

Hello everyone!

My 2000 lxi 2 door transmission is being random. No leaks. No grinding. No hard shifting. No shudders.

Sometimes it suddenly stops working... Every gear. Nothing. Then 10 minutes or ten hours later works fine again.

Any ideas? I know this problem is probably not a vehicle specific symptom, but I've never witnessed this before. I've worked on my own cars since the early 80's and refuse to give up and take it to a transmission shop.

Thanks!

I think the coupe, even though it's built by Mitsubishi and not by Chrysler, uses the same transmission as does the Chrysler. If so, you can easily replace the solenoid pack, and/or the input and output speed sensors. You can also change the fluid which might also help. The solenoid pack is changed from the top, along with the speed sensors, and is very easy as transmission jobs go. Look for a YouTube video. Fluid change is done from underneath, and is very messy. Be sure to use the exact fluid specified for your car. DON'T "upgrade" the fluid to some later and greater version. It may not work at all. Check and clean all electrical connections.

If those DIY items don't do the trick, you might have to get professional help.

Good luck!.

Default Mitsubishi?

I've read the firewall info. This is a 2.5 platform. Mitsubishi 6G73 engine. The tranny listed is an F4AC1 (Mitsubishi), but every source I go to in the internet claims it's a Chrysler transmission?

Do you or anyone else know which is which?

Thanky
