Fluid or oil leak

Fluid or oil leak
I have noticed an oil leak after a long drive (50 miles)
Closer inspection has revealed it is all over the bottom of the engine I’m seeing signs of it around the trans cooler block where the lines snap in but it seams more pronounced on the opposite side of the cooler If I understand it correctly the top third is trans cooler the fluid could be migrating but it’s a lot of fluid or oil on that side The other thing is it’s looks like motor oil but there is no oil cooler so it couldn’t be oil On the other hand if it trans fluid it’s in bad shape I thought I’d install an external trans cooler And change fluid and filter in trans I’m a little nervous about that, did that on a Ford one time and it killed the transmission Any thoughts or opinions
Would be greatly appreciated

Year, mileage, and engine
If you use a white paper towel and wipe up oil in spots you may be able to see its color and make a determination of what type pf fluid. One issue with oil and motors is the air currents swirling around the engine compartment that makes locating an oil leak challenging at best. To determine the source you may need to clean off the engine (being mindful of electrical connectors, etc).
