Default Ghost oil leak....

Well I have a question from all you...

Took my Aspen to our loyal mechanic shop, the owner actually did my oil on the truck and notice old oil that has been collecting on the K-frame. He has taken a look all over and can't find any areas where it could be and issue. He did say its not comming from the Valve Cover or dipstick. Worse case he said is from the head, but he would need the truck longer to try to clean up the residue off the motor.

Any ideas on what could cause this light leak? I'm going to a friends house that has a lift and inspect it myself this weekend. Any ideas would be great.

I would like to have this truck last until I finish paying if off...

Are you sure it's oil? The clowns at the quickie Valvoline told me it was leaking oil and I peaked under it because I figured they were idiots, sure enough, it was trans fluid from a compression fitting on the cooler line. The line was dirty and made the leaking trans fluid look brown.

However, it could be A LOT of different things. One easy nugget is the harmonic balancer/dampner pulley that may have been put on with a naked keyway (i.e. no RVT). I've seen that on a new vehicle once and more than a couple old vehicles with replaced pullies.

Other than that, it could any number of things. Oil cooler line, oil filter loose, etc. Likely NOT a rear main seal, not a piston ring/valve seal problem or anything big like that.

"old oil" could be left over from the last time it was changed? Whomever changed it previously might not have cleaned up after himself? Is your oil level ever low? I'd clean it up, and keep an eye on it. If puddle re-appears, you have an issue.

Bingo. It's very easy to tip the filter when you pull it. Oil all over the k-member.
