Default The AVG fuel economy thread

Hey guys, new user here. I am a Chrysler owner (several times over) and am thinking about getting an Aspen. Fuel mileage scares me a little, thinking back to my 5.2 Dakota. It was expensive to run, and gas was cheap then....

I would like to start a thread where everyone posts up their average fuel # (or a pic) from the EVIC. Having actual numbers from the EVIC eliminates many variables, and will give me a good idea what I might be getting into. I have seen a low as 9 and as high as 24 claimed right in this forum recently. So what is your number?

I saw 12.2 (!!!) on the EVIC yesterday on a test drive. That was over 5586 miles, though I suspect it artificially low due to it making rounds of auctions and used car lots.

If you're into fuel economy, get a diesel. If you're in the UK., an LPG converted petrol will get you similar cost-effective mpg, maybe slightly better, and that's due to the price of propane being around 70 pence per litre for automotive use. In fact it's much cheaper than buying even the biggest propane cylinder.

Avg 13.5-13.8 unless I'm towing then its around 9. I have a heavy foot and usually avg 75-80 on the highway. I have been told by mechanic friends riding with me that I'm hard on my vehicles. I have always used 89 octane and just changed out to a K&N airfilter in original box and think I have seen a slight jump, less than 0.5 increase in the MPG.

I average between 14-15 with mine. My wife drives it mostly, so it is a lot of short trips which hurt. If we are traveling I can pull down 18-19 unless I am towing and then I get about 14-15 still. My airraid air filter helped but I also add fuel cleaners like Lucas Oils fuel cleaner and that helps too.

This doesn't make sense. If you had said you got better mileage with midgrade over regular, I'd believe that, as the Hemi engine calls for midgrade fuel and will likely retard the timing to compensate for pinging from lower octane. However, there shouldn't be any increase in mpg with premium fuel, and in some cases using a higher octane rating than recommended can result in lower fuel economy.

Now, if you've tuned your engine with that diablo programmer and changed the timing, then all bets are off. But for a stock engine and tune, premium fuel for the Hemi engine is a waste.
