Default Do it right

Let me give a piece of advice for what it's worth. There's a saying that goes "Anything worth doing is worth doing right." It's true.
I'm gonna assume that either you're really young or really broke. (Maybe both) That's alright, so was I when I was young. Do this. Or don't do anything. ( simplicity) Buy a 4 pack (new only) of Tpms units, go to the tire store and have them installed. Be done with this issue....OR..... Don't do anything. ( No rebuilt junk, no ceremonies with fire and drums around the vehicle allowed). And focus ur time on enjoying life, not the pursuit of a $10 savings..Just another of my useless advice. Good luck

not young, 61 years of age... not broke.... Only paid 500 bucks for it because of the issues. I live 27 miles away from the local tire shop or town with decent stores, I can totally afford to sink some money into this thing just dont want to pay a mechanic 150.00 hr to just diagnose it.....

Default Ok. Replace

I replaced all mine to save doing one then when the battery died on the next one, etc.
Once all new and tires. Took about 30 miles and it automatically reset. A tech with a high end diagnostic rig can reset it. It seemed high tech on the "surface", bit in the end it's sorta a basic system.

Default going back to original issue

OK, so I started this thread with a question about the ABS/ESP/Traction control lights on...... I just spoke with the original owner... he said that the lights were off, then something happened to the RF tire stem so he had to stop at a ma and pa shop, all they had were regular stems so he put that in to get me back on the road..... and about 50 miles later, all those lights came on but nothing changed on the Aspen so he never had it checked out. So my question is, could that darn sensor be the reason all the lights are on?? The Aspen is going in the shop Tuesday to replace all 4 sensors... what would one sensor have to do with the ABS/ESP/Traction control?????

I could see how missing one of the TPMS sensors could cause issues for the other systems. They could all be tied together. I thought the traction control/ABS/ESP had a wheel speed sensor but it could be using the TPMS for wheel speed as well. I would get the new sensors installed and see what happens after that.

They do have speed sensors too, gonna start with the FR as that is the one the ma and pa shop had off.... maybe they hit it or something with the wheel itself... I was told most likely a speed sensor but replace the TPMS at the same time just because they all do "talk" to each other. Someone else told me that those speed sensors were proned to collect brake dust and dirt and to maybe just clean it first.

Default Yep

The abs/traction control takes into account tire pressure in order to pulse the brakes in the most efficient way. If you are in an accident and a tire deflates, and obviously have the brake pedal slammed. The abs would know this and not pulsate that brake function for the blown tire. (It's very clever but complicated) Replacing all 4 sensors with correct ones is what I did and it solved everything. You're on a good track. Hope the sensors fix ya up.
