Well clearly either the current filter is of wrong size or the one the store sold you is of wrong size. Without giving us any details such as filter manufacture or part number, it's going to be difficult for anyone here to know exactly what is wrong. They could of also given you a filter for a 5.7L instead of a 4.7L.
For a 2007 4.7L the factory Mopar filter should be 5281090AB (according to Chrysler websites). This is also known as MO-090 at local stores like Walmart and Autozone. Other manufacturers (Fram, STP, Mobil 1, etc) have a wide range of numbers depending on which one you go with. So best thing to do is to go to a website for the store (Autozone, O'Reilly, Walmart, etc) and punch in your vehicle details and see what pulls up for the correct one. These stores should also have a book by the filters for you to look up the correct one needed.
