Default Replacement Steering Wheel - 2009

Well....I searched the forum, with no luck on results, so here goes.

First off....this is purely a cosmetic concern, as the steering wheel in my 09 Aspen functions in every way as it should. However, the previous owner must have driven with dirty hands all the time, and it doesn't help that the color was a light grey/cream color to start with. I cleaned it, but it shows so much wear and tear and stains.

Anywho......the part number for the 2009 Steering Wheel is 1GK181D1AA. However, they are impossible to find.

My question is, has anyone swapped a 2007 or 2008 steering wheel into a 2009? The part number for a 2007 is YP211D1AD, and they are all over ebay, for around $100. I know they are the darker grey and won't match, but I still think that is better than my current wheel.

Also, I did put a cover over the existing wheel, but it's too much girth with a cover in my opinion.

Just wondering if anyone has done the swap. Doubtful, but worth the shot.

I've never switched mine out although like you, I have thought of doing it due to previous owner care. I did some searching and found out that the 08 apparently uses the same as the 09. 1GK181D1AA is the Khaki and 1GK181DBAA is Grey. Although Amazon was out of the Khaki one, they do show 3 in stock for the Grey at $438.51.

The 2007 model actually had three different types of wheels with the two colors for each. With audio controls in Khaki and Grey, With Out audio controls in Khaki and Grey and "Luxury" in Khaki and Gray. The part number you listed is the one in Khaki with audio. Now weather or not these would work with ours, I have no idea. I'm not sure if the 08-09 had any other feathers on them that the 07 may not have had.

Sorry for the delayed reply, I didn't get a notification for the reply for some reason! Great info you posted as usual, thanks! I"m still kicking around the idea, seeing if it is worth the $100 to do it on one of the 07 wheels. I'm not willing to spend the $400+ for a direct part number replacement .

Great Video link, thank you! I watched that, and am now curious, if I just peel that stained leather portion off, what will be there.

Did a little more research on the interior color options, I've pasted below a comparison from 2007 to 2009. You can see the 2007 Khaki color is combined with the same name Light Greystone for both the 2007 and 2009.

My 2009 has the Light Greystone per the window sticker.

I'd be reusing the same airbag, so really shouldn't be any electrical scares.....it's just making sure they fit the same, which to me it looks like they do.
