Default Shifting Problem

My wife had trouble 4 times today getting the vehicle into reverse and park. I also had trouble when she got the vehicle home in the driveway. The shifter was stuck and would not pass neutral. I finally got it after 10 mins of pushing the vehicle back and forth. Anyone else ever have a similar issue. I called the dealer and am bringing it to them tomorrow morning. Wish me luck.

Joe,
We have not had a problem with shifting at all. Sounds like something broke or is loose and binding.
Good Luck with the dealers.

Where are you located?

I am located in Bayside, NY. However, I purchased the Aspen in Fairfield, CT at Scap Auto Group. This is my families 7th vehicle from them. Never a proble. That is where I will be bringing it tomorrow. I already spoke with my sales guy Scott, who is awsome, and he said a similar thing to you. He will have it checked tomorrow and if need be kept to fix. I always get a free loaner, usually a Grand Cherokee so that helps out. Thanks for the reply...

Left it at the dealer for the weekend and they discovered the cable to be no good. There is a cable that gets pulled when you pull the shifter, well that cable was rusted and not good. No other explanation. Will have it back tomorrow.

Joe,
Good to know the issue, when you pick it up see if they have any ideas as to why it rusted and was no good. It might be beneficial to others.
Good Luck!!

The problem was that the cable has a sheath on it that probably wan't sealed properly. Water got in and rusted the cable. When pulling the shifter, instead of just the cable moving, it was bound to the sheath with the rust, the sheath moved with thecable causing it to get hung up. With a new cable, and they are also going to grease it, the problem should be removed. Of course all covered by the warranty. Also got a nice Grand Cherokee Laredo as a loaner while they do the work.
