2005 Pacifica 3.5L Timing Belt Question
My 2005 Limited has 91K and the water pump and timing belt have not been changed, thinking I should get it done. My car has some undercarriage rust issues, some cradle rust, and some rust on the wheel well behind the passenger side rear door, so I'm thinking I will price that repair out first. I put four new tires on the car a year ago, less than 5K miles on them, and new front brakes and rotors at the same time. I probably put around 6K or 7K miles on the car per year, so I'd like to get a couple more years out of it. Realistically, this car is only worth maybe $3,000 to $4,000 based on Edmunds values, but it's paid for and in good shape (other than the rust issue above). I don't expect to spend nothing for maintenance on a 12 year old car. One could argue that even if I had to put $2,000 into it between rust repairs and water pump and timing belt to drive it a couple more years then sell it or pass it on to someone, would be worth it.
For me I am letting it go and not going to change it, I have 102k now and really what is the vehicle worth now? Runs great but I know if it goes the engine is trashed but oh well not worth the investment in a 12 year old car. If I get a couple years more I will be very happy. Have AAA and they can tow it to a junk yard if needed.....
Good to hear about your timing belt. I am just pulling up on 300,000 kms/ 186,000 miles on the original timing belt. Car is pretty much garbage now so wont be changing it but will drive this thing into the ground.
