Default AC not working

On my wife's 2006 Limited, on AC took a s h i t on us. This happened the time the gear case broke. A bad motor mount caused the motor to rock and put alot of pressure on the transfer case. When we were driving the transfer case broke. We pulled over the car on the side of the road, and then heard a hissing noise near the passenger side floor area. From that day forward it has not been able to hold a charge. I want to find out what went wrong and remedy this before it starts getting really hot. I went to parts source and bought some sealer, then a can of frigerant. I put that in, and it worked again. But only for 2 days, then it was gone.I tried looking around under the hood. I bought a can of dye. So I pulled off the air box. Hooked my guage to the port, turned on the car with the AC on full blast. Put the dye on the system and let it run for 15 min as it said. Felt it get cold again. Then tried to take the guage off of the car and damn near burned the crap out of my arm when it touched the AC canister? Should that thing get that hot? You couldn't leave your hand on it. As soon as you touch it, it was scolding hot? Attached is a pic of the canister that burned me. What are your thoughts? I need to get this thing fixed asap. Needles to say it stayed cool for 5 min, then nothing again.
