Ambient air temperature sensor

Ambient air temperature sensor
My wife has torn up the front of her Pacifica pretty well over the years. I had a CEL come on, ambient air temperature sensor. The exterior temperature hovers around -37*, the sear heaters automatically turn on, and the AC is not cold.
I replaced the sensor and left the negative cables off both batteries with the headlights on for a couple hours. When I started it, everything appeared normal again. But when I drove it later, the CEL came back on, the exterior temperature is wrong, and the AC is not cold.
I check the two wires from the sensor as far as I could and did not find any issues.
The original sensor showed 12 ohms of resistance and went down when I heated the sensor with a hairdryer.
The new sensor showed 26 ohms and also went down when heated.
What else could be going on?
