Default Engine dying

About a week or so my 'Check Engine' light came on, the next time I started the car it didn't come on and Ihaven't seen it since. Today the enginedied I restarted and then theengine jerk back in forth like it wasn't getting fuel then it would die, I would start and then process would happen again. It did all the way home luckily I wasn't very far.After this it happened off onit finally quit doing it. This is a 2004 Pacifica my last 8 digits of my vin is 4R549075 and my milage is about 48,800. What the matter with my baby?

Engine code MUST be read,then the diag can start from there.

Can not help you until, you pull some stored codes out of the car.

Is there a way I can do that myself, and how do you go about doing that "retreiving the stored codes"? And do I have to wait till the check engine light comes back on because I haven't seen it for a couple of weeks.
