Default Factory Nav problem

Greetings and Salutations,
I own am 07 Touring Signature edition. The navigation player, I believe made by Alpine, has taken a dump. I get a message that says the DVD-Rom failed to load. Ive tried the reboot procedure (unplugging the unit), to no avail. From what little I have seen on the internet, repairing or replacing the unit outright is not a cost effective venture. Compared to the Garmin, Magellan, Tom Tom units out there, $400 for a repair or $600 to replace the player makes no economic sense, especially given its limited functionality in comparison to these aftermarket GPS systems.

Is there any electronic firms that repair these players at a more realistic price? In dash navigation is all well and good, but not at double the price for an inferior end result.

Try these guys and see what they say http://www.unitedradio.com/

If I were you I would just get a new aftermarket head unit and a windshield mounted GPS

I have a Magellan from a couple years ago...lol When I went to get the update they wanted 80 bucks. I paid 80 for the unit....

Thanks for the tip.

FYI for anyone else with OEM nav problems, I contacted United Radio and they will replace it with a refurbished unit for $225.00, with a 1 day turnaround. Cheapest price I found so far. However, I think I will still go with the aftermarket portable GPS units from Magellen or Garmin for the updated maps. And for the price it would take to send this unit in for repairs, I can get a real nice portable unit that does alot more than the stock unit did.

A decent NAV aftermarket head unit runs around 500 at Crutchfield. Still...a bit pricey for directions

Yea, thats true. But for $150-250 you can get a decent handheld GPS by TOMTOM, Garmin or Magellan and get more functionality as well as portability and more up to date features. To top it all off, I got a letter from Chrysler in the mail to update my Nav disc for a mere $199.00. Chrysler (and all car manufacturers) really needs to rethink their cost of updating the OEM units in light of the popularity of the new GPS systems out there now.
