Default Gas Gauge falling off

Does any one have the problem with their gas gauge falling off around 1/2 tank then returning to 1/2 tank and falling off again. Mine does this a lot. I'm inclined to use my milage to make sure I have enough fuel. The dealer I took it to said that it was a calibration problem with the sending unit in the tank and it would be $300 plus to fix it. I also saw posts that suggest I may have missed a recall. I bought the Pac used. Its a 04.

Yep. There's a computer update to fix this. Don't know if they do this free if out of warranty.

[:@] We had our 04 Pacifica in to the crook I mean dealer and they charged us an arm and a leg to fix the problem. That was three or four months ago, they claimed it was a service buletin so we had to pay. Anyway last week guess what started again, same problem.

ScottJumps, if there was a service bulletin the service should have been done free. If not I'd complain to Chrysler.

I did find a Service Bulletin on the problem. They say its an update to the computer. I have found that when I fill the car completely it will stop dropping off. If I don't fill it next time it will drop off again and keep doing it till I fill it completely. I'm not sure if using a higher grade fuel will stop it but I am gonna try it.

Don't see how octane would affect it. it measures volume. If you filled it up with tap water it should read full.
