Default Hoses on bottom of battery tray???

I replaced my headlights today with some newer bulbs. In order to do the driver side I removed the battery and the battery tray. There were two hoses attached to the tray. One was a drain, the other was attached to the charcoal canister and it had a 2 wire plug attached to it as well. Any idea what the hose and plug are for?
