Default need help, tranny problem on my 06 Pacifica

I was driving to my brothers house for Easter dinner and everything was perfect. Driving back home we got 10 min from his house when we heard a bang like we hit a pot hole. I thought nothing of it because my wife was driving and thought she did hit a pothole. We get to the set of lights and she puts her foot on the gas and we hear a grinding noise. We pull over to the side of the road and called a flatbed truck to tow the car. Any ideas as to what this could be. I smell tranny fluid and looked under the car and see some coming from the tranny. The car moves in drive and reverse, but obviously something let go. It's a 06 Limited with awd. I have always kept up on the maintenance on this suv. Did the filter and fluid change 2 years ago with all Chrysler stuff at the dealership. What do you think happened and what would be involved in fixing it. I'm very good with tools and cars as I have already done my timing belt and water pump myself last year.
