stuck in park DTC P0700

What you did was basicall break the safety switch. it is not a problrem but as you noted you no longer have the safety interlock that requires you to press on the brake pedal to remove from park.
I am having the shifter interlock system replaced at a cost of about 240.00 I have 2 children and felt that it was worth the money for the feature. My mechanic told my I could break the interlock as described above too.

Interesting yout Interlock system still works? My replacement shifter and labor was 192.00 total
If this happens again I will just strong arm the shifter and hope for the best.
Thanks for clarifying your post!

This same problem happened to me. There is a second pink lever inside the shifter (other than the one that moves when you press on the brake). This second pink lever has a hook that a spring attaches to, the hook breaks on almost all models that use this part eventually. Really, this should warrent a recall as it requires you to open your shifter to replace the part. Below is the link to the part that you need to replace. It costs around 49.00 including tax and shipping. They have full directions on how to remove the shifter in order to replace the part.

I think everyone should tell Chrysler about this and force the recall. It takes around 2 hours to remove, replace the part, and then reinstall the shifter.
