Default first maintenance on new cruiser

I have a new 2007 PT Cruiser...the dealer told me to bring it in for the first maintenance at 3000 miles, but the service manual stipulates 5000 mile intervals.

Do I ignore the dealer, or what don't I understand?

Thanks for your advice...

My service manual in Canada advices me to show up for maintenance every 5000 km, which is exactly 3000 miles.
