Whole engine spins but won’t crank
I have a 2001 PT Cruiser. Is giving me issues. The car just turned over 200k miles but runs strong. Then it died. Whole engine spins and sounds like a drill. It sounds like it’s not cranking though. I can see the crank pulley spinning as well as the cams. I just replaced the timing belt. I did check the timing marks on the cams as well as the crank before I put car back together. I also replaced the cam shaft sensor and the crank shaft sensor. I checked for fuel and spark, getting both. I’m not sure where else to start looking. Nor am I sure why it won’t attempt to start.

If you have fuel and spark, it should start unless the timing is way off. Check the compression to see if there is any. If not, go back and look at the valve timing again. Make sure you're not 180º off.

Did the timing belt break the first time it died and is why the timing belt was replaced? What you describe with the engine spinning like a drill indicates there is no compression.
The next order of business is to do a compression check. Though the engine is non-interference, meaning the pistons won't hit the valves if the timing belt breaks, it is possible the cams got out of phase when the belt broke and the intake and exhaust valves collided and are bent.
