Default ******WIPERS WORKING ON OFF POSITION*********

This sounds real looney, but my intermittent wipers have started working on the off position, like they have a mind of their own? How can this be, when i go to switch my wipers on, on the intermittent, they do not respond? When i'm driving the wipers all of a sudden come on , on their own, and i've noticed also that they, stop only when i press the pedal brake?

Is this an relay problem? Or something more sinnister?, please help me with this one, as i'm stumped !!!![&:]

sounds to me like you may have a communications issue going on. What year is your vehicle?

well thats the problem. there are a few things that could be going wrong, and unfortunately the actual problem might not have anything to do with your wiper system. It sounds like there is a module on the can b bus system freaking out (thats the electrical communications network for the interior systems) if there is a module sending weird voltages on the bus it will throw all kinds of things out of wack and really spook people. I don't know if you've ever been around a t&c when the battery is going dead, but one of the tell tale signs is that the wipers start to function on their own.

Now for the bad news. unfortunately the only way to really find out what module is doing this is to have the concern present. There are probably some trouble codes stored in your Body controller and the dealer should be able to pin point it fairly quickly (hopefully)

Hi Jonnychomp,

here's me thinking you would say something simple like, oh, check the relay? I'm not that lucky, i've had the car for only 5 months and it's been a headache ever since i'm afraid. Crankshaft goingf, Battery going dead, I've just recently replaced, now the wipers going mad on me?

The wipers will work on the 2nd and third switch, just on intermittent they will not respond and will only do so if the switch is off it seems.

The other thing i noticed is if i turn left, the wipers stop, and if i turn right, the wipers kick start on there own accord? If i hit the brakes the wipers also stop?

Would it be worth looking at a relay, and buying one, to rule this out?

Appreciate your help onthis one?

i don't think a relay is going to be your problem. from the sound of whats going on (sorry i must have misread your origional post) with the turn signals affecting operation you might be looking at the multi-function switch having a shorted contact internally. The fact that the wipers work in the other positions tells me the relay is good, and when you hit the brakes the body sway is causing the electrical circuit to open.

yep !!!

You're right it appears there was a naked wire, which kept on tripping on a live contact causing it to open.

Hopefully problem solved for now.

But the intermittent wipers are not working at all now? could this mean another problem? like a fuse or something? what ya reckon?
