Default 1997 grand voyager

i lost my key fob, and was told a new key fob could be programmed to my immoboliser, however the dealer cannot interface with my immoboliser because of the after market alarm.. this has been disconnected and they still cannot interface with it. what gives.. they are trying to sell me a new immoboliser on the proviso that it may not work. Are they for real....anyone had this problem or heard of this type of situation....
