2000 Chrysler T&C Power Steering
The power steering stopped working recently. The steering still works, but it is "arm strong" steering, that is there is no assist from the power steering system. I checked the fluid level, belt condition, looked for leaks and nothing is outwardly wrong. In the Haynes book it describes a power steering cooler, but does not show where it is located. I traced the power steering lines and did not find them to located anywhere but near the pump and the assist cylinder. How do I check to see if I have a bad pump or a bad cyclinder? If I loosen one of the power steering lines, start the car and turn the wheel, fluid should come spraying out of the partially open fitting? If I remove the serpentine belt, should the power steering pump have some resistance to being turned by hand or does it free wheel? Is there any electronic controls for the power steering or is it all fluid and mechanical? Thanks
