Default 2000 T&C A/C issue

A week ago Friday the A/C was working just fine, fast forward to this Friday and it isn't working at all and underneath the van I find a nice big oil slick. I've run down the list of things that it could be, so I check the oil, tranny fluid, power steering fluid and the brake lines for leaks and everything seems to be fine. I ask my wife about the leak and she said that it was there on Thursday, so I'm not sure what happened. I've read about A/C systems having oil in them, but I don't know what to check. I have two big questions:
  1. Where should I start and what should I check?
  2. Is this too big a job for a guy like me and should I just get it checked?
I tried searching through the forums, but I keep coming up with either zero results or tons of non-relevant posts. If this question has been answered, just post the link and I'll do my homework.

TIA,
