Question 2001 T&C HVAC intermittent malfunction

Greetings, this my first ever post on any sort of forum, so please forgive me in advance if I break any sort of 'forum' protocol.

I have an annoying issue with my 2001 Town and Country.

It has the fancy electronic HVAC controls (individual settings for passenger, driver and rear). The control panel intermittently turns off for no apparent reason. The 'ABS' light and 'trac off' light both come on at the same time the HVAC system turns off. Most of the time, it will turn back on when the vehicle is shut off and restarted immediately. It's not such a big deal in moderate temps, but today it was 5' F and the windows iced over on the inside. Also, the rear defogger was inoperable. After restarting it no less than 20 times, the HVAC still would not turn back on. After sitting in the garage for a few minutes, the HVAC system was operable again.

This vehicle has 214K+ miles on it and I don't want to spend a great deal on it, but it is the usual mode of transport for my several kids. Any ideas fellow forum users? Thanks in advance!

Tom
