OK, thanks for the information anyway - saves me wasting time trying to track down a fault which may not exist. May try a few resistance values since the cost is tiny, otherwise I'll just accept that I use the key for a while.

Wiper motor arrived today (fast delivery to UK again from RockAuto) - now have a working rear wiper. Only the tailgate release and drivers side power door switch to sort out, a service and the aircon regassing and it'll be in full working order. I'm very please with this car now and I think it's excellent value for what I paid.

Thanks to all who have helped me on here - without this forum I'd have spent a lot more money and have considered getting rid of it by now.

Merlin, you are the man!!!! :-)

After your post, I did a google search and came up with someone talking about remote operation of the lock - didn't really understand the gist of the article, but they were talking about resistance values of 1500, 2200 and 4700 ohms, so I thought I'd try that. Bought three resistors and tried the 2200 ohm resistor in series and it worked first time. So I've repaired the door switch for a total of about £3 in components, including some wasted stuff. A very good result and one that I'd never had got without your knowledge.

I may put in a heavy duty button switch instead of the repaired handle switch in the future (another £5 perhaps) but at least I know what I'm doing now.

A very happy bunny now.

If I'm in your area, or you are in mine (just north of London) then definitely
