Default 2002 LXI Rear Lift Gate Handle

Hi All,

I'm a new guy here but not new to the great info one can glean from good people on forums. Here's my issues. I have a 2002 Chrysler T&C with 109K miles. The powered rear lift gate handle has no power. Squeeze it and nothing happens. Is this an easy fix? I called the dealer and they tell me it is a $250 part. I wouldn't mind getting the part but if I can't fix it myself I am not paying to have it done. I can still open the lift gate with a key. I am ok with tools and diagrams. Here is the other door issue I experience. The auto passenger sliding door closes but as soon as it gets ready to latch, it pops back open sometimes. Some of the other issues we have experienced is really harsh cold starts, power steering sounds, and an overall aversion to wet and rainy weather. Engine makes a funny noise if the van has been rained on. This sometimes messes with the power steering. Sorry, it appears I dumped on everyone with ALL of my van issues. I love the van and it has been faithful all these years. Any thoughts would be great.

Hi

I had the same problem with my Voyager when I got it - the contacts in the handle corrode and it stops working. Replacing the handle is easy, but depends on whether you really are fussy about the handle, or whether you would be happy with an alternative button. I bought a good quality button from Maplins for £5 and a 2200 ohm resistor (cost pennies), and drilled a hole next to the handle and mounted the button there.

Before you drill the hole, take the wires from the handle (small amount of disassembly is needed), and connect them to each end of the 2200 ohm resistor, you should hear the lock release, which confirms that all is working. Then simply mount the button, put the resistor in series and connect the wires, and you have it fixed. Perhaps an hour in total and hardly any cost.
