2010 Town and Country 4.0
I’m new to the group and came here for last resort.
I have a 2010 Town and country.
203000 miles. Been a great van.
for the last two months my wife would complain about once week that the van would die, but would start right back with no issue.
so about two weeks ago I drove it to pick up my kids, like I do every day when I get home.
It started fine and drove fine. I went to to the schools and was going around a curve and noticed my power steering went out. Well the van died. Didn’t even realize it did.
so I tried starting it and it would crank and crank but no start.
here is what I have I done.
I checked fuel pressure, and I have fuel pressure, replaced crank position sensor, after this it would start and idle fine for about 4 or 5 seconds and start idling poorly and die. After this it would crank and crank but not start. It would only start if I had my foot on the throttle
and only remained running if I kept my foot on the gas. It would not immediately die but would idle down and stumble and die
I replaced the cam shaft position sensor and same results. Then I replaced all spark plugs. The plugs were drenched in gas. Then I replaced the air intake manifold gasket. Same results.
So I rented a scanner and only code it shows is for the 02 sensor bank 2 sensor 1. I replaced that today and engine light is off. To be fair the engine light had been on my car for at least a year.
I did remove the throttle body and cleaned it really well. After that it started and idled perfectly for about 4 or 5 seconds and then the engine would idle around 500 Rpms and would try its best to get to normal but won’t.
only way I can have the car to idle is to manually open the butterfly in the throttle body just slightly. A flat screw driver, so it’s not open much at all. It will idle. My scanner is showing the pedal and tps working correctly.
I did take a video of my van running and watched the butterfly. It was moving when I pressed the pedal. Appeared that it was working
sorry for the long post. I’m just baffled on this issue. Thanks

The IAC (Idle Air Control) may be sticking (attached to throttle body). Cleaning the throttle body likely allowed the IAC to move for a brief moment which is why it ran for a few seconds. Not really possible to clean it so a replacement may be in order. A sticking IAC would not allow enough air at idle when the butterfly closes at idle or lifting the throttle when slowing down.
If it always happens at idling or low speeds (25mph or less) check your egr valve. Sometimes they stay stuck open, which will force combustion gas into the engine when it doesn’t need it, causing it to stall. Sometimes they throw a code, some times they don’t.
