Default 2013 Transmission Whine

Van started having problems today. Wife put it into drive and it wouldn't go, engine would rev up and then it jerked forward. Same thing happened in reverse. I told her to let it sit for a while and tried it out and it shifted into drive and reverse fine but could hear a definitive whine from the engine even when in park. I was able to get it to shift into and out of drive but it wouldn't shift into higher gears when driving. The engine would rev up to higher than normal RPMs but wouldn't really speed up much. I was able to get up to about 40 mph and get it parked safely. I am afraid the tranny is toast but I am hoping there could be something else that would cause it. The check engine light came on as well but I haven't had a chance to get the codes read. Should I take it to the dealer, independent mechanic or just a tranny shop? Tips?

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Russ_M,

We are sorry to hear that you have these concerns with your 2013 Chrysler vehicle. We recommend visiting your servicing dealer for a diagnosis. If you would like additional support while you are in service, please feel free to send our team a private message with your VIN, mileage, and dealer.

Have you checked your transmission level fluid and color ?
How many miles and have you ever serviced your transmission?
