Oil Viscosity for Pentastar 3.6 engine
I have a 2013 T&C (3.6 engine) and 5-20 is the recommended viscosity. I'm OK with using a lighter weight viscosity but...this engine can run HOT in stop and go traffic whereby the fan comes on at 217* and the engine oil climbs to 200*+. Why so hot...? Plus after changing the oil I've noticed that it can consume almost a quart of oil in 3000 miles. That seems excessive for an engine with only 30,000 miles on it.
So my question is, has anyone tried a heavier viscosity and was there any noticeable benefits or negative affects? Thanks...

I’ve always wondered that too, but I’d honestly stick with the 5w-20. I don’t know if your under any powertrain warranty, but if you use the wrong oil and that was found to be the cause, I would imagine they’d deny your repair.
