after market radio: no sound and no NBS relay installed ?
Hi Guys,
Yesterday I installed an aftermarket radio in my 2005 grand voyager limited 2.8CRD. Purchased all the required (iso & antenna) connectors and everything seems to work fine except of course: no sound.....
I scanned this forum for possible solutions and was planning to connect a wire from the radio directly to the NBS relay as suggested in a post on this forum and this Youtube post:
to activate the amp.
I opened the fuse box to discover that there is no NBS relay installed ?
But the original factory unit worked OK without relay installed, but aftermarket unit produces no sound.
Does this mean there is no amp installed ?
How can I fix this ?
can I use any of the other relays to test this solution ?
My factory unit is a P05091610AC radio/cd. The only pin in the cars connector not connected at this moment is the one marked J1850 (nr 24)
Thanks.

Don't think the NBS relay is applicable to the 2,8's sound system.
The factory system outputs just 2 channels (L+R) which go to the amplifier. The amplifier is controlled by a data signal along the PCI bus from the head unit. The amplifier then distributes the L+R signal to all 6 speakers.
When I replaced my, I ran two extra cables from the new head unit and connected them to the rear speakers and used the existing L+R to feed the front speakers. I just removed the amp, cut the connectors off and joined the speaker wires directly.

Keep the factory radio under the seat and connect four wires. power / aux power / ground and PCI. When you use the car amplifier will be turned on by factory radio and sound will be play by new radio
