Default Alarm (but not the normal one) going off

Car needs a new steering rack, and as we didn't have the money before xmas, it's been off the road.

One night an alarm started going off randomly. We've now discovered it was probablly ours. No lights as normal, and a slightly faster & higher pitched sound.

Went to start the car, and the battery was dead. It's so flat, no lights or central locking working.

Anyway, in preperation to start getting it fixed, we conected a powerpack to the battery, and the alarm started again.

Disconnected battery, to get it charged, and we've just connected it to try & start it (which it does! ) and the alarm is back again.

It goes of for about 20 seconds, then stops for 20 seconds, then repeats. Starting the car it still carries on, and there seems to be no way to stop it. We've had to disconnect the battery again!

Any ideas what it is, and what we can do about it?

Thanks

Turn the key in the passenger door lock while the alarm is sounding, This will reset it.

Any ideas?
