Hi Neil,

I believe I have the same light (2002 3.3 auto) mine had never come on ever, until major electrical problem today which may have been caused by damaged wires in interior bus circuit (so I am told)
would this light mean immobiliser is on, explaining why car won't start? How do I turn it off?
I always wondered what this light was! thanks for sharing

Hi Terry - I'm still working on mine ... Don't know why the Thatcham/ immob should behave this way but so far I have pulled the whole dash apart (and most of the control modules) without any luck. Seems the failure of a module can lead to funny results like this.. I'm looking for damage of any kind and so far have found nothing definite .. After I've looked at the earthing points I will have to get the codes read.... Then it should tell me what's gone wrong...!

Default Problem Solved...

Hi All,

I thought I would post the solution to the problem here as it has taken me months and actually was probably the most tricky to find that I have ever encountered..

Many thanks also to TFB (Richard) for coming out and pointing me in the correct direction.. SoI hope this helps anyone else who reads this.

Basically we weren't getting any real response from the ECU so Richard sent me some diags to check out - in the meantime I got some wiring diags from the 2.5 supplement. It passed all the power and ground tests but failed one involving the ECU Relay. The supplement said pin 30 should be hot - however - it wasn't. So stripping down the IPAM led me to notice that 30 would never actually be hot as the other side of the relay output (pin 87) was permantly wired to the fused 12v+ supply.. Hmmm. Seemed the supplement was wrong as the main manual was then checked and that agreed with me... Beware the supplement !!!!. However, by a stoke of luck I noticed that this relay was not actually firing when the ignition was on. Pin 85 of this relay is grounded by the ECU and this was clearly not happening so I only had the trigger wire left to check (or a faulty ECU). On cutting into the loom just under the C1 connector on the ECU I noticed what looked like the trigger wire with a lump of green corrrosion attached. The wire was also broken it seemed.. In fact it was also damaged where it went into the IPAM as well. It looked like someone had pierced the wire to test it at some stage and this had let the rot in. It amazed me how bad this had become... Cutting back all the bad wire and putting a bridged connection in did the trick. How the fault could have started when the car was parked and not in motion amazed me and also how much damage can be caused by someone probing the wire and not bothering to seal any holes afterwards...!! One dead wire in the whole loom - my worst nightmare ..

Not sure how relevent this may be to anyone else but all I can say is don't dismiss the advice in the manual about looking for pierced wires - and if you find any please make sure you check them with a proper meter for low resistance...

Sorry to hear you have no workshop manual, they are almost impossible to find particularly the diesel, if you find a copy let me know.
