P0188 is the code for the fuel temperature sensor in the fuel tank, so it could be the sensor or the wiring.

P1491 is a fault with the radiator fan relay circuit.

thanks for the reply guessing the p0188 one is a nightmare to sort out if its in the fuel tank anyone ever had to do this ? is it easier to swap the complete tank ?..

and i have noticed p1491 is a common problem is there a certain part of the circuit that needs to be change is it just the relay thats the problem ?

thanks in advance guys

done a bit more digging and P0188 can either be the engine coolant temperature sensor or it can be the fuel temp, I'm getting different answers from different sources.

PM me your email address and I'll send you some doc's on the codes, they are too big to add to the board as attachments

Regards

i also have done some digging and have been told it could be engine coolant tempreture sensor if thats the case im guessing both codes could be related .

i have also looked at where the radiator fan relay is which i think is throwing the p1491 is located and it looks like the original relay bolted behind the bonnet has been disconected and some after market relay has been wired in .. has anyone seen this done before ..

I've dug through the diagnostic manual for your year and P0188 isn't listed. P0118 is listed as an Engine Coolant Sensor fault code.
Other documentation does show P0188 as used by Chrysler for a fuel temperature fault code.
Looking at the info for a 2001 I can see no mention of a fuel tank temp sensor in the wiring or parts, but the factory manuals are not infallible as they state mine has a fuel filter in the tank - which it doesn't
What i'd suggest is see if you can get underneath with a digital camera and get some decent photo's of the connector on the top of the fuel tank. You might be able to get a shot without dropping the tank. If we can see the wiring then we can work out if there is a temp sensor or not.

Regards
Richard
