Squirt some graphite grease into the wheel bearing and see if the noise diminishes a lot. If it does, the wheel-bearing will be worn out. Your steering arm could be a second wear problem -- sod's law!

I could detect NO PLAY in my wheel bearing------but noise stopped when replaced

Not looked into this partic. arrangement, but if it's a conventional taper-roller bearing with a castle nut and split-pin adjustment, you can take out the play all right, but the race can still be badly scored and therefore noisy. The same could apply to a plain ball bearing one might suppose. Good lesson for all here, replacement is only way to find out what's noisy.
