I'm working that way and looking for the easy way to remove this cover to gain access to handbrake adjuster.

 

Got it. Push down on gear shifter, turn and off. Two screws under that and two at rear in drinks sockets.
Then a bit tinkering with screwdriver at rear of handbrake handle and handle comes up to 12 o'clock. We're off and in there...Looks like the inside of Alien spacecraft.
