Like I also posted in another thread, my 2002 2.5CRD was in the garage on the bridge this morning for new front sway bar bushings when I noticed a fuel line hanging loose..
The mechanic looked at it and re-attached the fuel line. He explained to me this was the fuel line for the aux heater.. I found this thread and now I am curious if it is still working..

Am I right to assume the heater fully automatically starts working when:
  • It's cold outside ( like <10 Celsius)
  • Engine is cold
  • Interior heater is set on high
  • ?
Are there other methods to test the heater or anyway find out if its working?

Mine comes on when I put the heater on! 3 orange wiggly arrows come on dash and you can hear the heater going off like a Jet engine under the drivers side! Also can see some smoke (White) and can smell like 28sec kerosene! But can't be as its a diesel. The Webasto heater will only come on if there is more than a1/4 of a tank of fuel. I didn't know that until I came on this forum.

HiYa Vmaxxer , look under the car the thermo-top is big enough to be obvious, its under the car, under a plate and looks like this it'll have (1) water in (2) water out (3) fuel pump (4) and (5) electrics mate.

Yup thx, I found the heater (or DCHA as it seems to be called) already.
I even found most info I was looking for in the manual..
Now the only thing I am wondering about is that the heater gets switched off when unable to run multiple times in a row (like in my car because the fuel line was disconnected): "If six
continuous attempts to start the heater fail due to
one or more faults in the DCHA system, the heater
enters a heater lockout mode."
Would that mean I have to reset the Car Computer by disconnecting the battery for a minute or so? Or would the "DHCA" detect it can resume normal operation now I connected the fuel line again?
More info I found:
For vehicle’s with a Manual Temperature Control
system, the DCHA will activate only:
² when the engine is running.
² when the coolant temperature is below 66°C
(151°F).
² when the fuel tank has greater than 1/8 of a tank
of fuel.
² when the Power switch on the A/C - Heater
Control Module is on.
² when the Blend control on the A/C - Heater
Control Module is set above 90% reheat (within 2
detents of the full heat position).
² once per ignition cycle, when the ambient temperature
is below 9°C (49°F), and the vehicle
speed is above 25 km/h (15.5 mph) for two minutes,
and the Blend control on the A/C - Heater
Control Module is set anywhere from 80% to 90%
reheat (3 to 4 detents from the full heat position).
Under this circumstance, the DCHA will remain
active for five minutes unless additional input is
supplied to the DCHA.
² when the Front Control Module (FCM) sees the
Cabin Heater Activation request that is bussed
from the A/C - Heater Control Module.

For vehicle’s with a Automatic Temperature Control
system, the DCHA will activate only when the:
² VIN indicates that the vehicle has a diesel engine
² vehicle’s odometer reads more than 5 miles.
² engine speed is above 500 rpm.
² coolant temperature is below 66°C (151°F).
² fuel tank has greater than 1/8 of a tank of fuel.
² Power switch on the Automatic Temperature
Control is on.
² Driver Temperature Control on the Automatic
Temperature Control is set above 22°C (72°F).
² Front Control Module (FCM) sees the Cabin
Heater Activation request that is bussed from the
Automatic Temperature Control.

I have auto digital, the operation of a DCHA is different for an automatic and a manual temp controller. In my case the Diesel Cabin Heater Assist [ which is really sod all to do with the cabin] never appears at all all summer and reappears about now. The way I run mine is - I have the digital temp set to full whack and the fan set to low and on full auto [not aircon] and it just works. I agree its a complicated logic that's written to the EEPROM in the Weabasto, and yes you may have been shut down because its been disconnected. Start here and read forward about three pages you will see what conditions have to be met before the heater will switch on. I'm not even clear about whether their are any codes [CAN setting switches] that I could switch on or off for you I've never needed to look mate.

Today I looked at the DCHA, and all is connected well..
Fuel lines, ok, wiring harness looks ok, connectors ok, the whole DCHA assembly looks ok for the naked eye.
I did the keydance and only a errorcode about the FOB key turned up..
Also all conditions to start the DCHA according to the manual are met as far as I can tell.

But the heater is not working.

Now I found a "heater relay" in the relay/fusion box. Could that one be broken and can that easily be replaced? Anyone any experience with that?

Plugged my meter in for you about an hour ago and can't find anything at all about the Webasto or about its CAN setting switches. tfb - have you found any reference in yours ?

I have no clue where to find any info about diagnostics on this Webasto, although the workplace manual mentions that its faultcodes should be readable somehow
Anyway I have no reader for that
