Power Steering keeps blowing hose under motor
Hi,
Our 2000 T&C blew out a rubber hose under the engine two weeks ago, and yesterday it blew again. Replaced old clamps with new and flushed out the system. I northern NY it has been cold and lots of snow, got stuck in the snow parked it and next morning all the fluid was on the ground.
Either the snow is grabbing the hose and tearing it off or there is something wrong with a relief valve or blocked screen. Searched the archives here but couldn't find the answer. Hope someone can help.
Thanks

Really need some help here. Going to dealer today and could use your advice. Last time it cost $175. Today????
I'm afraid they will want to replace a pump or ram?? Bigger bucks and can't afford unnecessary repairs.
Thanks.

Hoses blew on our 2001 T&C. Local mechanic replaced custom hoses with generic high pressure hose and hose clamps I believe. Happened several years ago and has not been a problem since. Paid about 100. Could have done same my self for 20 or 30 if I had known. Also don't know if it applies, but I see several mentions on forum about cleaning pwr steering reservoir filter. Maybe a clogged filter increases pressure. I don't know for sure. I plan to change filter when it gets warmer here in Chicago. Good luck.

Hi Gonorm,
When I read your reply I thought I was confused, I thought I was reading my own reply and had to look to make sure it wasn't mine. Your words are exactly my situation including checking the filter and repairing it yourself for 20-30 bucks. That was the first time. The second time the mechanic said it was a second hose that was torn off. Must have been the snow build up from being stuck in deep snow, probably more than a foot deep.
I too read about the filter and I thought it looked clean. I think it's in the resevoir and you can see it when you remove the cap. Good luck with yours and thanks for your reply.
