PS Pump Replaced slight movement in shaft
Hello, I am in the process of changing my PS pump on my 2000 Chrysler Town and County 3.8L. I purchased a brand new Carbone Select PS pump from Advanced Auto. I have been following removal in installation instructions exactly. WELL HERE IS MY QUESTION! After I installed the pump on the car, I noticed slight movement in the shaft of the PS pump. When I grasp the pulley, there is a slight in/out movement on the shaft. The original pump had 150 grand on it and there was a little movement in that on as well. I called Carbone Select and the tech said that is normal for that pump. Not that I don't believe him, I just wanted confirmation. Thanks for any thoughts. Rick

My last pump cost £30 and had slight movement in/out as well but no up/down bearing wear that would destroy the oil seal. So if its not leaking and powering ok what more can be done as dealer says. There must obviously be a lack of a side play shim on the shaft inside I would say. But telling a manufacturer that when their pumps last 10's of thousands of miles its a waist of time.
But again safety wise, we have got to bring this up, if your still not happy get it in writing that its ok and has been recorded by them.
