Interesting findings there andy.

It's typical that the dealer should take that position....."There maybe software updates available for the affected control units on your vehicle" Reading between the lines they have heard of, and delt with this problem before. They must have as pretty much every forum member with a Voyager of that era has this problem.

As Chrysler sold the car with the faulty software, the least they could do is charge for the actual time to fix it. (10 minutes)

Thanks andyb2000 and booke23, and because Hiyabusa may be coming here looking I'd better update the thread :-

Introduce the fob to the car again, get them antiquated, try a reconciliation!

- turn the key to the start POS but do not START the engine

- when the checks stop lock and unlock the doors FROM the FOB several times
- - - this will re-marry the KEYFOB and the PUTER

- lock in the usual way with the KEYFOB, does the alarm function normally ? - if not do the following :
__________________________________________________

- disconnect the batter for 5 minutes, your FOB and car are now divorced .. .. then reconnect the battery
- your battery and FOB are now acrimoniously divorced and won't speak to each other

- turn the key to the start POS but do not START the engine
- - - the PUTER will read all BUS's and door locks, do all checks, you will hear lots of clicks

- when the checks stop lock and unlock the doors FROM the FOB several times
- - - this will re-marry the KEYFOB and the PUTER

- start the car, while it warms up re-set the missing settings from the radio and the roof display
- stop the engine and lock in the usual way with the KEYFOB - does it work now ?

NOTE01 : an afterthought - when you think you have locked and alarmed etc the vehicle you / it hasn't finished. The vehicle polls the computer BUS for 15 minutes checking windows / doors / radio and lights left on etc. Only then is the alarm function fully functioning.

NOTE02 : I've never has one single problem since the .. .. re-marriage !

.. .. Try the key dance for codes, they might give clues to your other problem : -

Do the 'key dance'
-its a different car but the same sequence

Put your hand on the key / on and then off a and then on and then off and then leave it on

SO, on-off-on-off-on

Even the best of garages won't have a 'deep reader' for this vehicle, only the main stealer @ Ł100 a pop, the best taxi fitter with a 30 grand snap-on won't be able to read the codes.

Best of luck .. .. dual badge number XXXXXX XXX

Regarding your other enquiry about the central locking I have checked to see if there are any open recalls/service measures available for your vehicle to which there are none.
There maybe software updates available for the affected control units on your vehicle, however without the vehicle being present for our technicians to check I cannot comment at present as to whether this is the case or not.

I feel the central locking issue you have warrants diagnosis and we can offer our initial diagnosis for up to an hour @ Ł90.00 Inc vat (this is at the reduced rate for diagnosis)

So although they obviously don't know if my car needs a software update applying, they are happy to play around for an hour and charge me (I'd assume the software update would be an additional fee on top of this Ł90)
When they say to you "there may be this or that and we need Ł90.00 for diagnosis", then throw this paper at them: TSB-08-040-04

This is a Technical Service Bulletin which involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Body Control Module (BCM) with new software and it applies to 2005 vehicles equipped with Power Locks only (sales code JPB) and 2004 - 2005 vehicles equipped with Power Locks, Power Liftgate, and Security Alarm (sales codes JPB, JRC and LSA respectively).

NUMBER: 08-040-04
GROUP: Electrical
DATE: December 9, 2004
DIAGNOSIS:
1. Using a Scan Tool (DRBIIIŽ) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures Manual,
verify all systems are functioning as designed. If DTCs are present, other than those
listed above, record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before
proceeding further with this bulletin.
2. With the ignition switch in the "RUN" position, determine the original part number of the
BCM currently in the vehicle. Using the DRBIIIŽ select:
a. "DRBIIIŽ Standalone"
b. "1998 - 2005 Diagnostics"
c. "All (Except Below)"
d. "Body Interior"
e. "Body Computer"
f. "Module Display"
g. Record the "Software part #" on the repair order for later reference.
h. Check DTC's
3. If the vehicle operator describes or experiences the Symptom/Condition, use the

connector at the DRBIIIŽ connection. Use this cable whenever a flash is
being performed.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
NOTE: Whenever a controller is programmed, the software in the DRBIIIŽ; must be
programmed with the latest revision level available.
08-040-04 -2-
NOTE: If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted and
then follow the directions on the DRBIIIŽ.
1. Before beginning the reprogramming procedure, remove any old flash reprogramming
files from the DRBIIIŽ memory. To clear the memory from the MAIN MENU:
a. Simultaneously press the "MORE" and "YES" keys.
b. A screen will appear requesting a "COLD BOOT".
c. Follow the on screen instructions by selecting the "F4" key.
d. When the DRBIIIŽ reboots to the MAIN MENU, proceed to Step #2
2. Connect the DRBIIIŽ to TechCONNECT. Open TechTOOLS and verify that the
"DRBIIIŽ Status: Connected" message is in the upper right corner of the TechTOOLS
screen.
3. Enter the "Software part #" recorded during "Diagnosis" in the "Parts Criteria" area and
select "Show Updates". TechTOOLS will populate the available updates.
4. Select the calibration.
5. Select the "DRBIII" radio button which is next to the "Download/Update" button.

follow the instructions on TechCONNECT. When the flash process is complete,
proceed to Step #8.
8. Disconnect the DRBIIIŽ from TechCONNECT.
9. Open the hood, install a battery charger and verify that the charging rate provides
approximately 13.5 volts.
10. Connect the DRBIIIŽ to the vehicle.
11. Turn the ignition to the "Run" position (engine not running).
12. Download the flash from the DRBIIIŽ to the vehicle. Using the DRBIIIŽ select:
a. "Vehicle Flash"
b. Follow the directions on the DRBIIIŽ screen.
13. Verify that the problem cannot be repeated by cycling the ignition switch OFF/ON and
actuating both door lock switches a few times. If any door lock failure still persists then
further diagnosis is necessary. Verify the BCM "Software p/n" was updated to the new
software p/n using Diagnosis Step #2.
NOTE: Due to the BCM programming procedure, a DTC may be set in other modules
(TCM, PCM, MIC, SKIM, etc.) within the vehicle, if so equipped. Some DTC's
may cause the MIL to illuminate. Check all modules using "Module Scan",
record the DTC's, and erase these DTC's prior to returning the vehicle to the
customer. Erase any DTC's in the PCM only after all other modules have had
their DTC's erased.
